Madagascar, officially named Republic of Madagascar, is an island nation in Indian ocean, facing the southeast coast of Africa, off Mozambique. It is also the largest island in Africa and is the fourth largest island in the world. It is separated from the mainland by the Mozambique Channel. Note that the island was once attached to Africa, as a result of the separation multitude of unique species in the world where retained  in this territory. Thus, it s home to 58% of species of animals and plants in the world (of which more than 80% are endemic to Madagascar). Of the more notable are the lemur infraorder of which are primates, the carnivorous fossa, three endemic bird families and six endemic baobab species. Indeed, it is within the list of diverse countries.
