Zanzibar… Somewhere so steeped in legend that you might wonder if it actually exists. Indeed few places on earth evoke such romantic images as this island off the coast of Tanzania. Just the very mention of its name and you are back amongst spice merchants, ivory traders and adventurers seeking their fortune.

Zanzibar’s colourful history certainly holds people in thrall. Yet this ancient sultanate with its warm and friendly islanders is also a tropical Eden. Its powdery white beaches are lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, its lush forests are a playground for endemic monkeys (the Red Colobus), whilst its turquoise lagoons are alive with playful dolphins and gentle sea turtles. It’s a sensual, exotic and bewitching place that never fails to captivate its visitors.
