Mauritius, independent republic located in southern Indian Ocean, stands at 900 kilometers east offshore the largest islands at that part of planet, Madagascar. In addition to Mauritius island, the country includes San Brandon, Rodrigues and Agalega islands forming part of Mascarenes Archipelago jointly with French island Reunion. Despite its remoteness to the continent and due to the coral barrier surrounding almost entirely, this incredible volcanic island enjoys over 165 kilometers of calm crystalline water and beaches.

Mauritius has an extension of 1,865 square kilometers, 65 km. long and 48 km. wide. Despite its reduced size its orography is abrupt with an extensive plateau in the center surrounded by short chains mountainous and volcanic craters. Highest peak is peak la Riviere Noire with 828 meters.
